At a one-off price of $452.38 +/-, it might be a little over West's
budget, ya think? And that is even assuming that he understands its
purpose. Adding to that, the connectors able to manage the job per the
parameters discussed, not to mention the cabling, will make the
transformer, rectifiers and sheet metal look downright cheap by
comparison.

It is not for no reason at all that separate power-supplies are seldom
used these days. Sure, back in the day of the AA5 radio, curtain-
burner line cords and transformerless tube radios in metal cabinets
all sorts of things were done - and there were few bodies on the
sidewalk as a result. And cars had no seat-belts, hard metal
dashboards, standard glass windows and so forth. We have better
choices these days and better solutions to once-insoluble or expensive
problems. A few diodes can eliminate rectifier tubes with less heat,
less loss and far greater reliability. Caps are so cheap as to be of
negligible cost against the cost of everything else. Even very good
ones. Transformers may be manufactured to reduce vibration and non-
magnetic materials are available - it's all in accordance with what
one wants.

What *was* done in ignorance or for lack of better solutions is no
longer acceptable. We do know better and we do have better solutions.
They might be expensive relative to less apt or less elegant ones, but
if one makes a certain choice, then paying the price is the only
legitimate option. And that price is paid either in costly technology
or in exquisite and redundant planning for safety, or some of both.
