The umbilical only needs to be 50cms at most just to allow
the psu to sit on the shelf below the power amplifier.

All the amplifiers I have seen built this way, including my own,
have a filter cap for each channel on the amp chassis, at the
end of the DC cable.  I use 470µF with a 220k/2W bleeder.
