Magnepan via Citation

CITATION REBUILD

As I noted previously, a friend sent me a pair of early Magnepan speakers.

I'm currently listening to a Dyna ST-70 with a "total makeover."  Needing
a
bit more power / headroom to experiment with the dipole speakers, I was
motivated to finish rebuilding a HK Citation II (that had sat atop a
basement freezer for well over a year!)

I've been way too busy with my business to undertake many projects, but I
thought, what the heck . . . an hour a day won't hurt.

I had been collecting parts for the project, including Jim McShane's
capacitor replacement kit and power supply upgrade, a quad of scarce
KT-90s,
an original cage, and a pair of replacement glass PCBs nicely made by Bob
Washburn, a former neighbor in my trailer park . . .   ;-)

I endeavored to do the usual things, including replace all of the tube
sockets, which are usually stressed by all of the heat from the output
tubes.  So I am almost rebuilding the entire thing from scratch.

I discovered that the original builder had a few bad solder joints, so
perhaps the time spent rebuilding would be a lot more than what would have
been required to troubleshoot it . . .   I also felt that replacing those
40
year old electros was a must.

Would welcome any suggestions from folks who have rebuilt theirs.
