This is partially incorrect because there are two different kinds of error

detection and correction in CDs, depending on whether they are data or
audio 
CDs.  The DVD error corrrection scheme is more similar to that of a data
CD 
but has different parameters and more overhead data for redundancy and 
checking.

CDs are based on 2,352 byte blocks. All CD blocks have 12 bytes of synch
and 
a 4 byte block number.

Audio CDs have 2,352 bytes of user digital audio data.

CD-ROMs have 2,048 bytes of user data, and  288 bytes of data for
addtional 
error correction, detection and null data.

Each DVD sector contains 2418 bytes of data, 2048 bytes of which are user 
data. DVDs thus have somewhat larger amounts of overhead data for
redundancy 
and checking.
