Yes. Here's how it works, 2pid. There's somebody running for an
office. You like what that candidate says. You decide you want to
help. You host a coffee or dinner for that candidate and invite your
neighbors. The candidate shows up and talks for a little while and
solicits funds from the attendees.
You don't believe me? Call your local party and offer to host one for
a candidate.

What you're implying is that every person who hosts every coffee is
vetted. That's not the case. Even you could do it and it might be
months before your candidate realized that he'd been to a coffee
hosted by a rearded person. Imagine what Hannity would say about that!
