Speaker upgrade suggestions (from linn sara)?

by otto <iceberg@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 4, 2008 at 11:32 PM

Any recommendations for upgrading from Saras? I am really thinking of
models that can be bought second hand!

I love the Saras! Especially the tight, clean bass when driven with a
nap250. However I now have a larger listening room (20ft x 25ft) and
would like a some more of that clean bass right down to "visceral"
level if possible.

I listen to wide range of mussic (classical, jazz, rock & folk) and
like to be able to believe the singers & musicians are "in the room".

Some other factors in descending im****tance...

Floor-standers up to 1m high would be fine (wide & deep is ok).

Speakers need to be happy within 3ft of back wall (bookshelves on back
& rear side walls).

Wooden finish is fine (modern or old styling)! Black, silver, chrome
is not!

Something a bit easier to drive might be handy. The 250 has started to
cut out occasionally after 2 / 3 cd's at "daytime" listening level -
may be it's age! - may be I have things a bit louder in this bigger
room.

Just to start the ball rolling from the cheap-end I tried some B&W
dm640s in this room. My memory of B&W's was of clinical sound - not
these - I hate them with a vengeance! "boom - muddle - boom - muddle".
Fiddling with position and bi-amping helped - but not much. I only
mention this as I rather suspect this strong dislike will translate to
other ****ted designs. Maybe new ones are much better?

thnx. for any ideas.
