Your inclination to get a second unit is probably best. Cheap way to
get parts too. With a coupleof units, you should be able to keep your
favorite effects working well past their sup****ted lifetimes. :-)
If LCD is totally out, but unit still works otherwise, look for bad
driver IC or transistors for that part of the circuit. If LCD is only
dim, it could be a leaky filter capacitor. If there's a component
that's loading something down a great deal, you can look for it by
feel... See if there's an unusually warm transistor, driver IC or
capacitor (besides regulators or current limiting resistors in the
supply, which are normally hot). Could also be something as simple as
a cracked solder joint where a lead goes through a pad or a bad flat
ribbon connector, etc. I'm sure you'll get it working, but you may
have to invest a little to prove how much you like the sound of that
thing. :-)
