Hmm.  Good read.  I'm starting to think this is a bad idea altogether.  The

particular show has 6 phones on stage at once and all need to ring 
independently of each other.  I think the production staff was counting on

the ringing of the individual phones to help cue the (amateur) actors.  I 
think it would be much safer to play the ring from the sound booth and
make 
the actors be big boys and learn their lines and cues w/o mechanical help.
