It's a foolish mistake to not properly earth the generator. The earth
ground is not there for RF issues or noise. It's there for lightning
safety. Lighting has an affinity for power generators and conductors.
Without a proper earth ground. The millions of volts at high current
will find it's way through all the gear and anyone standing near it. I
believe even in the UK it's a code violation to not have earth grounds
on your gensets. In the states, it will get your gig shut down quick
if your rig is inspected. When renting generators in the states, it's
standard procedure for the rental house to deliver and ground the
genset.
