Bob,

If you go to the digidesign.com website, they have some impressive
endorsements & fine video tutorials.

The club that I work at as house engineer in Pittsburgh has considered
installing a digital console. But, that would make it harder for me to
find a sub when I'm on the road. It might still take a few years for
bands' engineers to be able to operate a digital console without a
babysitter.

In my case (on the road), it is actually cheaper to hire sound companies
to provide digital consoles than analogs. With analogs, we need outboard
FX/EQ racks. And because of that, it takes revenue producing seats out
of the picture, & obstructs audience view if they put me where I'd like
to mix from.

I like the warmer & more accurate sound of analogs; but the band loves
the fact that I can change the monitor mix from scene to scene. And I
can change all FX (and almost everything else) with the press of one
button.

But, I still like the sound of analog. Tough trade-off decision.

As a house engineer, I'd still go w/ analog; unless someone can babysit
the bands' engineers.

As a touring engineer, I'm on the fence. I don't know which foot to put
down. And something between those feet tends to hurt. Can you read
between the lines? Ouch!!
