The cheaper option is to do as John Lennon did it by lying on the studio 
floor and having a mic suspended above him as he sung, which he would set
to 
swinging in circles so he could approximate a Leslie effect.

Of course the drugs consumed to arrive at such an idea would probably cost

more than the turntable.;)
