It's not that they didn't like the Crowns, they (or at least Scott) didn't
like switching amps at all. But when you need all the power you can get on
the least amount of current, that's the niche for switching amps.
Personally I'll sacrifice a little sound quality to pull less current (too
often I have to share a single 15A circuit with the band), and less weight
(more efficiency means less heat in the amp, and less stuff to deal with
the
heat). But I'm thinking of Powerlights, not Crown. My limited experience
with Crowns has been a 100% failure rate.
