What George misses is that the OP put a heck of a lot more into the job
than 
just a weekend, or $650 worth of time. Besides $650 worth of time is 
meaningless, without an hourly rate.

An event such as the OP described can easily involve 100 or more hours of 
work over a period of several months. For George to make an unfavorable 
comparison of 100 or more hours of work over several months to a weekend
gig 
shows how out-of-touch George is.
