I would just add that if one has some decent headphones, it might help to
get a better 'image' of what that CD sounds like and then compare that to
the sound coming out of one's system. Of course phones aren't gonna be
completely flat, but a lot of times setting the graph on the system to be
semi-even is gonna make any channel EQ down the road function a lot
better.
And also, depending on how 'live' the piano or whatever is in the room,
the
sound will be a combination of live sound & PA. So it might be nice to
hear
in the phones what is actually being picked up by the mics, and how that
sounds by itself. If it sounds like crap in the phones, it should be
looked
at from the source, mic placement, type of mic, etc, rather that tryinng
to
polish a bad source sound. And if you do have a decent sound in the
phones,
listen to the live sound in the room and imagine what needs to be added
via
the PA to create the sound or coverage you're looking for. Then EQ to find
that.
