Thank you all for your help.
I certainly am not one for handholding (no offense taken, though). If
I can find info on my own, I'm going to grab what I can get and inhale
every bit of it without help (but I won't turn it down, either). I'm
sure you've hit brick walls trying to find info about eqs and sound
boards. The data is limited...or I'm entering the wrong search words.
I don't have a thick skin. I can argue with the best of them, but I'm
on time constraints. I don't have time to prove I'm always right.
[very big grin] I'm new at this, so it'll take a few days of studying
to get caught up to the curve in here. [another very big grin]
Db and Hz aren't foreign to me. I studied up on all that before I
progressed to the specifics of the mixer. Again, no offense taken. No
one knows what's in my head...and it can be pretty scary in there.
I'm finding helpful information in the Mackie PDFs. Thanks for the
link. Unfortunately, the Spirit downloads are the same I have, but
aren't specific to my model. Mackie isn't either, yet for a different
company, I'm getting more questions answered there. Go figure.
As for the idea of playing a cd through the mixer, that was my first
step...and yes, it did help a lot in learning the system. Sound isn't
good enough for me. I want to make sure I'm doing it right...and
strangely in our faith, women aren't supposed to do high-tech stuff.
They're slowly changing, but many are still ***ist. In some ways, i
have to prove I know what I'm doing. In case you haven't figured it
out, I'm a woman. My username is named after my bird and I thought I'd
get better results with a man name. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but
you'd be surprised how different the responses are between gender.
The piano does leave limited space since it is controlled by the
pianist at the piano. Still, much is controlled through the board and
it can sound pretty funky if it's pushed too far one way or another.
Sitting in on the choir practices won't be a problem. On my system,
we have the option to mute the channels and listen through earphones.
Of course, this won't give me the speaker feedback I'll need, but
it'll allow me to get the basic sound I need.
Thanks for the idea of cutting instead of boosting first. I'll try
that.
OK, so my plan now is to go to http://churchsound.prosoundweb.com/
for more questions when I'm stuck, and check out the Yamaha sound
manual.
Thanks for all your help. You all are packed with experience and
knowledge and I've benefited from it.
