Hello, I'm new.  I don't think I belong here; I'm definately not going
to be an advisor and I'm probably going to get on everyone's nerves.
If you know a different forum that will offer sound advice (''scuse
the pun he-he!), please point the way and I'm out of here.  I don't
need people yelling "RTFM!" or "do a search, Idiot!"  I wouldn't be
here if a google search was helpful; that's how I found you guys.

My training wheels are still spinning, but this doesn't mean I haven't
done my homework.  I've been studying sound theory and I'm trying to
hone in on the mixer at this pont, but I have questions.

Here's my first (please don't get mad).  I have a Spirit LX7-II...or
rather, my church does.  I have the mixing guide, but it doesn't seem
to be specific for the model we own.

There are 6 knobs: one for high frequency, two for hi mid, two for lo-
mid, and one for low frequency. I'm trying to figure out the Hi-mid
and Lo-mid dials on top: Hi-mid being 550/3k/13k and Lo-mid being
80/450/and1.9k  I've been trying to adjust the knobs for our piano.  I
can't adjust for the choir until they're singing, of course...in fact,
I need to go to choir practice to adjust them.  That's my next step.
This is how I've been managing it:  I turn up the cut/boost knob I'm
working on, cut the remaining knobs, then turn the frequency knob
above the boosted knob until it sounds right...chart the numbers, then
proceed with the others in the same manner.  If you're scratching your
head, perhaps you don't know what you're doing and don't belong in
here.  [very big grin]  seriously, am I on the right track or am I way
out there by myself?

I think I need help.

The frequency knobs confuse me a bit:  would there be basic settings
to springboard from, or is the ear my only gauge?  Hi-mid shows
550...3k...13k (3k being on the 12:00 position).  Lo-mid shows
80...450...1.9k.  For a piano specifically, would there be specific
positions for the dials?  I'm asking because I do know different
sounds have different frequency ranges, so would that information
apply to the top dials?

I'm ignorant in this area, but I'm a perfectionist, so I'm pretty well-
rounded right now.

Am I asking the right questions?
