Sony is (or at least was) actually pretty good about this. The trick is
getting your hands on the service manual for your model so you can find
out
what part number you need. Once you have the part number, there are many
places you can buy parts (I've used PartStore.com in the past with good
success). I've been lucky to find manuals online for some of my Sony
equipment. Try these sites for manuals:

(I've not yet tried this one since you need to register with the site)
