I Believe the last version of portable MD MZM-200?? will upload files
recorder from older models like the 707.

That is correct.   I own a 707 and an MZM-100 which will not upload
legacy files.

I think not unless you have the crummiest if sound cards.  Also the
707 has a menu option for playback line level or headphone level.  I
found I got slight better results when uploading with line out.

The other option is to buy and older home stereo MD unit and upload
digitally in real time via your sound card's digital input.  Most of
the older units which have digital outs will only play SP format, not
LP2 for example.  However Jeff has documented how to modify a
MDS-JE480 to play out digital SP and LP recordings.

Those are all of your options.  Probably I'd recommend line in on your
sound card or buying the MZM-200.
