Actually, I'm sure that this is the HiMD unit deciding how to enumerate
itself to the host (PC).

So it will depend on what "rules" Sony stuck in the HiMD units. Maybe
they
want to prevent any attempt at getting to the audio data on a MD except
through their programs?
