Sony MZ R55: make external batteries last longer

by chris <chris@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 4, 2008 at 11:34 PM

Hi all,
I just discovered that the AA cells in the external battery case of
the R55are arranged in parallel (what idea to do something like that
  ; )
Actually i noticed that the MD would start to make noise if only one
cell was inserted.

That lead me to start playback with a new strong "starter" cell and
when the disc was running, to replace it succesively by two older
cells that would show only "low batt" when inserted right from the
start. It works! after startup, the device draws considerably less
power so that even a single of the older cells would keep it going.
Could be a nice trick to help out when you are short of good batteries :)

Cheers! chris
