John is mistaken in his model designations.
All ****table Sony minidisc machines have a model designation starting
with MZ.
As has been said, what you're looking for are HiMD recorders. These have
model designations MZ-NHxxx (for the first generation), or MZ-RHxxx (for
following generations). The H in the model number tells you it's HiMD.
You should be aware though, that not all HiMD recorders have a mic-in
connection. Some of the low-end models only have line-in, or even just a
USB connection. So make sure to check before buying that it has mic-in.
From the top of my head, models that have the features you need are:
First generation:
- MZ-NH700 (Re****tedly best value recorder. Takes AA batteries.)
- MZ-NH800 (Same as NH700, but with FM receiver in remote.)
- MZ-NH900 (Takes so called 'gum cell' battery, but can also use AA's in
included add-on pack.)
- MZ-NH1 (Top of the line from first gen, but has only a minimal display
on unit.)
Second generation:
- MZ-RH910 (Functionally same as RH10, but more basic exterior.)
- MZ-RH10 (Pretty, and big, OLED display, but scratches easily.)
Last ****table MD ever to be made by Sony (or so it seems):
- MZ-RH1 (Re****ted to be the best ****table minidisc recorder ever, still
available in certain shops, but rather costly.)
Hoping to be of help,
Erik Toussaint.
