I recorded a couple of dozen albums, some of them at a studio owned by
one of our local millionaire-musician's studio. He has literally the
best mics money can buy and the Meyer near field studio monitors
(favorite speakers I've ever heard) in a carefully tuned control room.
I learned enough there that when I record something on a $300 minidisc
with a $100 microphone and listen on a cheap set of headphones. I am
confident I can still tell what's actually there and what actually
isn't.
