What about Audacity? Available for all platforms (Win, Mac, Linux, Unix), 
FREE, and as far as I can see very capable. I use it with my laptop to
record 
from a mixing console. It works very well. It's also good for editing,
noise 
removal, copying LPs to computer, even eliminating scratches. Can't go
wrong 
for the price
