The various versions of ATRAC do better with certain kinds of music
than others. I've read re****ts that ATRAC is generally one of the
better formats for classical music, but not so good for techno pop
where there are huge artificial transients in the music. These kind
of fast attack wave forms can distort in ATRAC. Also as mentioned by
another, very quiet passages may reveal artifacts too. If you are
happy with the quality you have now there is no need to save at a
higher quality format for listening purposes but if you ever plan to
convert to a different format (mp3 etc), wav or some other lossless
format is a good idea to have the original or a copy at a lossless
format. Converting from one lossy format to another lossy format does
not work as well as converting from a lossless format to a lossy
format.
