They made a machine (H4) that looked pretty much exactly like a D-1.

Conversely, it offers more or less the same functionality as the D-1,
but at a much lower price

The Zoom has a design flaw which causes very weird things in the noise
floor.  Some Zoom users say they can hear this and others say they
cannot.  Most consumer products like minidiscs do not have this weird
noise problem.
