Don't know if Minidisco is reliable and safe, but they've been around for
several years.

This one I ordered some labels from a long time ago and they were o.k. I
still get email ads from them, so I'm guessing they're still in business.

The all digital recorders are starting to take over. One advantage I see
with them is you can stick mics in the units themselves and not pick up
any
noise from the recorder because there are no moving parts. That and
uploading recordings to PC is super easy.
Sony made a huge mistake when they didn't allow the old NetMD's to upload
recordings to the PC. By the time the HiMD's came out with this feature,
it
was too little, too late. The latest HiMD units have lots of useful
features that people really wanted back when the first NetMD came out.
Sony
was trying to prevent illegal copies from being made, so they crippled the
NetMD's. In the long run, that was a stupid decision.
