Very few stores carry MD in the US. There are a few Sony stores in some
malls that still carry HiMD, but I'm not sure you can buy the old MD
blanks
there. There are still a few places online where you can order MD's.

For recording, the all digital recorders are supposedly getting pretty
good.
I'd stick with a high end unit here (I think Edirol makes some?).
For sharing bootleg recordings, I hear that nothing beats a PC and a stack
of CD-R's for burning audio cd's.
