I run a cable to my office computer while recording my LP's - about 40
feet.  

They make USB extenders for under $50 that can extend a USB sound card
up to 150 feet to where your computer is located with an ethernet
cable.

You should definitely not multitask while recording.  Is that what you
mean?  Or are you saying that if the computer is sitting there just
only recording it still drops out?
