Easier to use the HI-MD, it's way more ****table... I could record direc 
to computer but that would be harder since there is no place for the 
computer near the turntable.

So that's why the extra step... Plus the HI-MD can do one job while the 
computer does another.  One hazard in overworking the computer is it 
takes an electron break from time to time and that can ruin a recording 
session.
