Tracy Cooks article in todays West states once again just how Telstra
won't do anything for it's existing customers unless their competitors
push them into it first.
At least these customers are able to get some form of broadband even
thought the service is very slow. Please spare a thought about the poor
folks like myself who don't have Broadband, can't get Broadband & seem
to have no prospect at all of ever getting Broadband of any flavor.
I live in Brentwood in an area where Telstra has paired all of the phone
lines which leaves us with a top Internet speed of 28kbs & zero prospect
of getting Broadband since it appears that Telstra has no intention of
upgrading the local exchange.
Both sides of politics have in place promises of improving Broadband
once the election is finished. These promises should they be met will do
nothing at all to help people like myself because there is no prospect
whatsoever of ever getting Broadband unless our phone lines are unpaired.
My ISP is Optusnet who can't provide Broadband because of my paired
phone line. Optus has refused to even ask Telstra to unpair the line
because they say that Telstra never actions their requests.
Once Optusnet refused to request that Telstra unpair my line I decided
to try elsewhere. I had heard that iinet could provide service to
problem areas so I applied with them. I initially got answers
confirming my order, then other emails saying that they were still
investigation the situation & finally was informed that they were unable
to provide broadband for me.
Next I heard similar good re****ts that Amnet could provide services
where others could not. I initially got answers confirming my order,
then other emails saying that they were still investigation the
situation & finally was informed that they were unable to provide
broadband for me.
In desperation I finally gave up & applied with Telstra even though I
hate the idea of dealing with them. As you can see from the note below
even Telstra can't provide service. Where does one go from here? I had
heard that the government was providing subsidies to people in the bush
to help them get broadband. Is there any similar scheme for those
disadvantaged people who live in the city?
