I won't say that your guess is as good as mine, but it's worth the
same. From browsing Sony websites the other day, I think that they
only still offer one non-Hi-MD model on one of Sony's European
websites. I can't remember what you call them, but it's something
like a boombox but less ****table. Sort of what kids might have in
their bedroom, with a tuner and using cassettes or CDs as well. If
I was forced to guess, I'd say that Sony won't introduce any more MD
models, and if you want the RH1 or M200 you may be out of luck if
you wait another month or two.
For such a complex piece of gear, they seem to last forever. Just
one of my Hi-MD recorders must have been used for about 10,000
hours. I thought it had died a week ago when it took several
minutes to flush the TOC when recording to a disc that was about 1/2
full from previous recordings, and it then completely failed after
that. No problem writing to the disc for minutes or for hours, just
that the TOC couldn't be closed when I wanted to stop recording. It
turned out to be a bad disc, the first I've encountered in many
hundreds. Get 'em before they're all gone! (both the discs and the
recorders) :)
