Guitar amplifiers make poor PA systems.
Lavalieres make poor PA announce mics.
Put the 2 together and you get results about like you have described.
Most aerobics / linedancing classes and the like the leader uses a
wireless
headworn mic with a small (and sometimes not so small) PA system that
includes music playback.
The Distortion problem can be minimized by adjusting the mic sensitivity
control on the transmitter and/or placing a foam windscreen over the mic
element.
A low cost but still usable wireless system by Nady might be worth a look
