what is your budget range?

usually, the need for substantial gain in recording from a distance
requires
microphones and preamps with low self noise.

assuming a high degree of sige/back isolation is what you are after a
shotgun mic such as the audix UEM-81s sells for about $300 to $350  (mine
was much less, used on e-bay)

if you can find or build a parabolic reflector, placing an
omni-directional
at it focal point will give you directional properties. i would suggest a
Behringer ECM8000 ($50 most places in the us) if you have phantom power
available.
numerous other small condeser omnis would probably work about as well.
