I've gone through just abt every vocal mic out there and there are
occasions 
when you need to use a super or hypercardioid, but those decisions should 
have little to do with whether you sing bass, alto, etc., more placement
and 
phase issues. If you're happy with a SM58, stick with the SM58 or maybe a 
Beta 58.  One other that I might suggest for bass is Audio Technica
ATM61HE. 
It has a great response and better definition for lower ranges. (street 
price around $225.00 if you you can find them).
