Oktava MK319 - and the mod

by "mrlefty" <mrlefty@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 12, 2006 at 03:57 PM

I have a pair of Oktava MK-319 microphones. I used to use them as
overheads
on my drums but I didn't like a couple of things:
1. They weigh a lot and you have to have a pretty hefty mic stand as
overheads.
2. They were great at capturing toms, but my cymbals sounded a bit flat.

I've since changed the overheads to MXL-993, and I'm much happier with the

sound of my cymbals, and I'm now using the Oktavas strickly for vocals.
I've been quite pleased with the results.

Michael Joly out of Springfield, MA does modifications on Oktava mics with

premium electronics.

I've been considering sending my MK-319s to him, but I'm hesitant to make
changes to my favorite vocal mics. Has anyone here had experience with a
mondified 319 or 219?

Will
