Greetings, folks!
I've been having a problem in the band lately and thought today that
someone might have some advice... Our female (lead) singer likes to use
a wireless setup with her microphone. It gives her freedom to move
around, etc., and works well for her... except for the sound. For a
while she's been using a Samson UHF Series One--Airline handheld dynamic
mic with their AX1 transmitter. This setup results in a pretty thin
sound for her... she's got a raspy voice... sort of like a mix of Janis
Joplin's raspiness with some Etta James tone (so not as raspy as Janis
-- actually, you can hear her on the 10-year old demo that fires up when
you visit <http://www.knockofftheband.com/>
-- her voice has matured a
bit since then, especially her pitch, but it's still the same gal,
so...). This mic, especially when hooked up wirelessly, just
doesn't deliver well for her.
Then she recently tried a headset version of the Samson Stage 5 system,
and that was even worse... really wierd EQ from it... like it had TONS
of extra 1k in it for some reason... We haven't experimented a whole lot
with it (tried it at a quick soundcheck once and haven't had a chance to
mess with it since).
So... Anyone have any thoughts for her? Her preference would be to find
a headset that works, but I think she'd settle with a handheld that
worked wirelessly and gave her the punch she needs.
Thanks!
-Dave
