Thanks guy, I posted this to pro.audio and received a real earful lemme
tell
ya lol.
The way I use them is sound reinforcement for a Barbershop chorus. I've
been informed Uni is what I want and actually is what I use. I bought them
for the price not really knowing the difference, just got lucky. But since
I
am doing the sound I have spent some time on the net trying to educate
myself.
The mic's I own are Oktava MK12's (I think, they are already loaded in my
car so I don't want to dig around to be sure lol). I got them in a truck
load sale at Guitar Center for $50.00 a pop. I was a bit leery but have
found them to be excellent mics. I recorded a coaching session with our
chorus recently using my Marantz PMD 740 and was amazed. It Sounded as
good
as any professionally recorded tape. Recorded dry with no post production.
I
wish I would have bought 8 of them instead of only 4. One thing is, I have
not found adequate wind screens for outdoor use. They do pick up even the
slightest breeze which can make them howl.
I had only done rock and country bands with regular dynamic mic's, had
never used a condenser before this. In fact I have a gig today with the
Sweet Adeline's as co/headliners. This is a real challenging venue. A park
gazebo backing up to a recreational lake. There is no way with our limited
resources and no stage hand help to block off the back. This is my second
year doing sound. Luckily this is just a family picnic to get the groups
and
families involved. The music is somewhat secondary. Not that it's not
im****tant but the gathering is the main focus so it let's me off the hook
a
little bit.
thanks again. Hank L.
