There are two common uses for the word monitor in describing consumer
loudspeakers:
1. The implication that the speaker is used or capable of being used
as a professional monitor but the label is generally applied for
marketing purposes. Few, very few speakers are so used and they
consistute the minority of those labeled monitor. In other words, it
is useless marketing term.
2. The acknowledgement that the speaker is small and can/should be
used on a stand. Duh. One can see that.
So, ignore the word. Choose speakers on performance, not labels.
