I have a SL-1500 Technics that needs TLC every few years. 
The shaft oil becomes gummy and it will not maintain speed.

Buy a can of "Electronics De Greaser" and a can of 3-in1 oil (NOT 3 in 1
Motor
Oil) or Sewing Machine oil ( Because the both have needles ??? <RDFC>  )

**Always disconnect the power before removing the platter, which is PART
of
the MOTOR or motor control damage could result.**


Place lots of sheets of Newspaper under the unit.
Remove the cover  to avoid being splattered-discolored.

Remove the platter
Use tiny squirts of de greaser on the shaft bearing, spinning the shaft
between squirts. Repeat a few time AFTER the shaft spins without
resistance
(dripping out the bottom is happening) to flush the old goo out.

Rock the unit gently to aid dripping
Allow to dry.
Add Oil to bearing, spin, let stand a few minutes. Repeat 2 more times
(you
flushed out all the old lube and want to be sure it is replaced with fresh
lube.

Replace the Platter and try to set the speed using the strobe. If the
speed
knob is way off center, Un- plug, remove the platter and slightly adjust
the
coarse speed control under the platter in the opposite direction of the
upper
speed knob (to bring the top setting near the middle).
