Your question is sort of like "I'm hungry, what should I eat?" Well, that

depends...

What is your budget? What level of fidelity do you require? With
absolutely no offense intended, most of those all-in-one type units are
lo-fi, inexpensive and relatively poor-sounding systems. The speakers are

generally small two-way junk-ola. that having been said, why buy filet
mignon if you're happy with hamburger?

You can buy absolutely anything on eBay, and if you are patient you can
get
it all for a very fair price. If you don't want the hassle and have a few

bucks to spend, go on down to Circuit City or the like and have a listen
to
what they've got set up. Virtually any receiver made by any of the known
brands will sound great compared to your previous system, and can often be

had for $100-$150 or so, again DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU WANT. Obviously an
HDMI-capable home theatre system with multiple digital inputs and outputs,

LFE out, 7 speakers and 900W of power will run you more than a two-channel

stereo receiver. You'd need a cassette deck, for which you may need to
scour your local pawn shops and thrift stores... cassettes players are
manufactured in very small numbers nowadays but there's TONS of used ones
on
the various markets. Ditto on the record player, there are oodles of them

on eBay, really good quality ones for not much $$. Any junk CD player you

pick up will likely exceed the performance of what you had previously.

There's no such thing as a CD Recorder. You need to do that on your
computer as far as I know, although now that are DVD-R and DVD-RW machines

which do the same as the old VCR, it might well be I am wrong on this
point.
