One other thing occurs to me. You might want to check the default
audio setting on your dvd player. Many players are set to output the
lowest audio by choice, which is often analog surround or 2 channel.
You can set it to default to dts or digital dolby. Some will let you
set the fall back as well. On those you can set dts for the first
choice and digital dolby for the second when dts is not available.
Dts with a digital connection to your receiver will kick butt. Dts
rules! (sorry dolby lovers)
One of my neighbors bought a combo sony dvd player/surround sound
receiver with an optical connection. The default sound setting on the
dvd player was still analog surround!
