We do get surround sound.  Different sounds out of the various speakers
(front, rear, center and subwoofer), I thought that's what surround sound
is.  The manual states that the receiver does have "multichannel surround
sound".  It has 5.1 channels.  Granted today similar receivers are 6.1 and
7.1, but ours does a fine job.

Btw, I used only the digital coax cable and the sound is fine.
