Hi Matt: I hang around but don't comment much until I see follow ups
like the replies on yours;-)

I have two LD players, one is a Pioneer CLD 2080 and the other is a
To****ba WR-X90, both are auto reverse and the To****ba has an optical
audio out.
Using a 6.1 surround unit is fine, I use a Pioneer Elite VSX 41. I have
about 60 disks all in stereo or better and love to watch them on and off.
Many folks believe Japanese speakers to be crap but I have owned many
that sounded very good. If you like vintage I would suggest Sansui or
Pioneer. They tend to have better sensitivity and look very retro. I own
a pair of Sansui SP-X11,000 which are very large but sound great:

Most of these speakers I have found at pawn shops and second hand stores
very cheap because the thought is that old is no good. The Pioneer
oldies usually need fixing (Foam surrounds go bad) but the Sansui's are
almost always OK. I have also owned Hitachi units that were comparable
to Energy or Paradigm. Despite popular believe speaker technology has
not changed a great deal over the last twenty years. The amplifiers and
the amount of buttons and flashy lights however have.

PS the Sansui's were a freebee from a friend, in the boxes with original
packing and manuals.
Let me know if you found something and I can look up what you should pay.
