speakers for computer

This may be a little off topic, (well, not really for this group :) ), but
I know that many of the guys here are true audiophites. I recently picked
up a Teac X-7R reel to reel recorder to convert my R2R tapes -mainly big
band-Buddy Rich,
Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton etc.) to wav files. Now, the problem is,
what
to play them on. The last set of speakers I had were Utah ones in the
70s.
I began looking for speakers that could play the converted reel recordings
from my computer. It appears speakers have gone from 2'x4' boxes to these
little what nots that sit on your desk. Anyway, I would appreciate any
audiophites recommendation as to what might be a reasonable to pick up.
Am
looking at Phillips MMS321 -a 2.0 unit. (2 speaker units, no stand alone
base subwoofer. Also, some review I have read indicate that the base
subwoofers 2.1 units are not really designed for music. I want to hear
rich
bass- but
do not need to be thumped out of the house. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. Not wanting to pay a fortune $50-$100) , but would
enjoy to hear
a nice sound-especially trumpet and big band.
Steve
