To simply test this good theory, connect JUST the video from a known
source to
the A/V input.
If sound then Arny had it right :)
BTW you may be able to use you Laptop as the video source as some come
with
S-video/Composite adapters (To****ba for one).
Lastly, did you use the correct jack on the notebook?
If you use a "Dock", these sometimes disable the duplicated jacks on the
Laptop.
Was the Volume Knob tried in varied positions?
Is there a separate control (Mixer panel) for the output you used? Not
"Muted"?
