HK amp function question

by "Walker" <walkerent@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 10, 2007 at 02:47 AM

I just received a Harmon Kardon A700 integrated tube amp. I'm very
impressed
with it so far but it has a weird feature that I haven't looked into yet
and
perhaps someone here can shed some light on it first.

There is a 'Blend' knob on the right side and there are two lights on the
opposite side that are labeled 'Mono' and 'Stereo'. The lights change
intensity as the knob is turned either way and it appears to go from mono
to
stereo and blend in the middle.

I can't see any useful purpose other than maximizing mono recordings and
that would have been better served with a switch. Was there any other
purpose and was it based on anything stronger than a whim or some sort of
useless marketing bragging rights? Otherwise it's a no frills panel with
useful controls.

Just curious.
