By all means leave it unplugged while you clean it. Use your vacuum
cleaner
to get the lion's share of the dust out, then switch to a cheap 2" (or so)
paint brush to finish the job. There should be nothing in the unit that
would
be THAT fragile as to be damaged by cleaning it out. Just avoid cleaning
solutions (or water-based liquids of any kind). You probably will need to
pick-up a can of contact cleaner from Radio Shack or some equivalent, and
using the extension tube that comes taped to the can to spray some in each
switch and rotary control (such as volume) on the unit. Spray into the
switch
or control and then work the control vigorously. If it's been sitting for
a
while, the contacts are likely either slightly corroded or dirty.
